Hayley’s POV.

As Selena stood up, I wrapped my arms around her waist for support. We managed to get through the bustling crowd and slipped inside her room. It was sorta girly. Different shades of pink and purple was all over the place. From her couch to her cabinet! I was just wondering what is she going to tell me privately. It’s been a few days since we became friends and she’s treating me like we’re sisters. That’s how I see and feel it.

“Umm.. Selena?” I sat down on her bed and glanced at her direction. I’m really curious on what she’s gonna tell me.
“Hayley, I don’t know where would I begin.” She said. She was staring outside the window with tears on her eyes.
“Why are you crying? Selena, does it hurt? I mean your legs? Or there’s something else besides that.” I asked over.  She’s crying a lot lately. I wonder what’s up. I’m beginning to suspect that something is not right.
“I need the necklace as soon as possible, Dad thinks I really lost the necklace. He’s starting to ask me about it. Of course, I lied! I don’t want him to be mad at me, Hayley!” She sobbed.
“Sel, I told you I’ll help right? I’ll find a way. Don’t you worry. But I think, you should have told the truth. Because, I know, your Dad would understand. He is your father. And I guess, he would be pleased if you didn’t lie at all.”
“No! I won’t tell him Hayley! No way! I’ll be dead if he finds out that I really lost it. You don’t understand what kind of person he is, Hayley.” She yelped.
“Okay, okay. By Saturday I will give you the money. Okay?” I said. What now? Where would I get thirty dollars? Whatever. I can do this. I can find a way to have that amount of money without asking for someone’s help.
“Hayley, there’s something else. I just found out that it isn’t thirty dollars but rather eighty dollars. I’ve searched over the net and my necklace is really like the one posted on the site.”
“What? Eighty dollars?” Okay. Let me breathe first.
“I don’t know if I can make it until Saturday. But uhmm.. I’m not urging you to lie but at least don’t mentioned anything about the necklace to someone else. Try to cover up when someone ask you about it. Even your father.” I said. My erroneous conscience dictated  me to blurt it all.
“Okay, I can do that. It’s very simple. Thank you so much Hayley. Really, really thank you.” She stood up and hugged me.
“Anytime.” I whispered.


Emily’s POV.

Zac and I decided to stay on my house instead of going out. I’m not in the mood to explore outside tonight, I’d rather stay here at my room with Zac, just watching different flicks and eating foods. I wonder what happened to Hayley, she didn’t listen to me.

“Ems, are you alright? You’ve been staring the screen blankly.” Zac whispered to my ear.
“Yah, I’m fine. Oh Zac! I’m really worried to Hayley. There’s something going on. I already told her about it but she didn’t believe me.” I blurted.
“Whoa, take it easy.  She didn’t? How come? And what’s going on? Would you mind telling me the whole detail before you freak out Ems.”

“Right. So, I heard Selena and other girls at the comfort room talking. That was the time when I asked you where I could find Josh. Blah blah blah. Anyways, Selena said to Hayley that she lost her necklace. But the truth is, she didn’t. I already said it to Hayley but she insist that Selena really lost her necklace. What should I do Zac?” I cried. The popcorn I am holding fell on my lap.
“Shhhh. Shhhh.. We will try to talk to her about it, again. If she didn’t believe us, it’s her lost. Not ours. Okay?” Zac hushed.
“Okay. But she have to believe us! No matter what! I don’t want Hayley to be “living in a lie”.” I quoted. She’s my friend. I don’t want her to be on danger. Or something like that.
“We’ll try.” He sighed.


Hayley’s POV.

The next day isn’t normal anymore. I’ve tried to apply in every shops that is hiring for anything and bad luck has come my way. Not really, this is the last choice that I’ll ever have. Baby sitting. I won’t get enough from it. Should I sell some of my stuff on eBay? That wouldn’t be enough. My feet were tired from walking to and from. I sat over the bench and saw a flyer lying there next to me.

E-mart is hiring for some baggers and some saleslady. Need work? Come and apply now! Hurry! Just look for “Emily” over the office. Thank you. J

Emily. Which reminds me. She must be losing her mind. But she won’t lie to me. I know she won’t. Now who’s I’m gonna believe in? Can you tell me, mind? Seriously, I’m the one who’s insane. I’m talking to myself.

The droplets from above started to fall, touching everything on the land. I remained still on my seat but I told myself I have to run to the E-mart and apply. How would I? I’m wet! Oh whatever. Next thing I knew, I was running and looking for the ‘E-mart’ somewhere. Perfect. I’m gonna apply and I am really, really presentable.

“I’m looking for Ms. Emily? Where I can find her?” I asked over the guy over the package counter.
“She’s on her office. Just straight ahead and when you see an office, that’s her place.” He replied, eyeing me suspiciously.
“Okay, thank you.” I said and hurriedly made my way to the office. I nearly tumble down because my sneakers are not in a good condition when it rains.

I finally reached the office. I’m trying to catch my breath because it so damn hard to run from the park up to here. Deep breaths and I knock.

“Come in.” An old woman replied.
“Excuse me ma’am, I’m really sorry, I’m dripping wet.” I responded as soon as I enter the office. The office was very simple, just plain white wallpaper, few chairs, two wooden desks, a computer, stack of papers were lying on the desk, a wireless phone and a mug of pencils and pens. Two big cabinets, a television and a water dispenser.
“Oh! Honey! You must be cold. Wait there for a minute.” The old woman replied. She must be on her fifties,  I guess. She’s wearing a dress with a thin black belt on her waist and penny loafers.

She showed up with a white towel on her hand. “Oh heavens, don’t you have any umbrella my dear? Come on, wrapped this on your body.” She handed me the towel she’s holding and I immediately wrapped it on my body as she said. She handed me a hot chocolate and sat beside me.

“Are you here for applying?” She asked. She has a curly  short brunette hair like my grandma’s. She smelled good too.
“Yes. Ma’am.” I simply replied and took a sip from the mug I was holding.
“You look so young. Do you still go to school?” She asked with a frown on across her face.
“Yes, ma’am. I really need the money so I have to work,” I  said, Oh jeez. Will she allow me to work?
“Okay, since you really need it and I see that you’re a good child. I’ll let you work. You can start tomorrow.” She smiled, showing her complete teeth in the front.
“Thank you. Thank you so much!” I hugged her.
“Now, finish drinking your hot chocolate and go straight home to change clothes, okay?” She said. She reminds me a lot of my grandma, who passed away a long time ago.
“Yes, ma’am.” I sipped my hot chocolate happily.

“Hayley!” Someone called me. I looked around, scanning the place. As if I can see everything clearly. I just left the E-mart and about to head home. “Hayley! Over here!”
It is Zac. Now what am I going to do? How would I explain everything? I didn’t go to school today because I have to find a work. Aunt is fully aware that I didn’t attend school today, all she know is that I don’t feel like going to school. That’s it. She didn’t know about this work thing.

“Hayley, what are you doing?” Zac asked. He peeked his head on the car’s window.
“Standing.” I replied sarcastically.
“Yes, I know you’re standing. Oh Boy. Josh’s gonna kill me. Come on, hop inside the car now!” He yelled over.

“Hayley, why didn’t you go to school today? Josh’s looking for you. As well as Emily.” Zac said as soon as I get inside his car.
“Sorry, I’m dripping wet.” I replied.
“That’s okay. Just answer my question Hayles.” He said. O-oh.
“I just.. I just don’t feel like going to school today.” I lied. Well, what do you expect? I can’t tell him about applying in the E-mart for helping reason. He would tell Josh!
“Did you just apply there for work?” He asked. His gaze was focused on me. How did he know? How come? Oh Boy. This is really trouble. SOS. Mayday!
I remained silent. He knew.
“You are helping Selena to have her necklace back, aren’t you?” He asked. Now I’m done. He knew everything. But I should have defended myself.

Emily’s POV.

We entered the familiar living room of the Farro’s. I can’t see any sign of Hayley here. She’s not in here. Oh crap! I have to tell her about what is really going on with her and Selena. Oh shoot. Where could I find her? I searched over outside but I can’t see her. I don’t want to go over their place, march inside and explain her everything. She might be sleeping by now. I don’t want to disturb her. How I wish Zac and I have never gone to the restaurant of my Aunt. But oh, whatever.

I began to dial her number and waited for someone to pick up the phone.

This is Hayley, please leave your message after the tone.

Beep.

“Hayley, this is Emily. You won’t believe what just happened a while ago. I heard Selena talking with her evil girlfriends. She’s playing a trick on you. She said that she lost her necklace, but the truth is.. She doesn’t. Please, Hay—

“Hello? What? Emily? No. She won’t lie to me.” Hayley answered on the other line.

“How can you be so sure Hayley?” I retorted. Now I hate this.

“I can see that she’s good to me and there’s no reason for her to lie to me.” She simply replied.

“NO! That’s not true Hayley! I swear!” I exclaimed. Hayley thinks Selena has changed. She thought Selena wouldn’t lie to her. Brain wash?

“Fine, if you don’t believe me. Okay, you trust her more right?” I feel like crying.

“Emily, I’m sorry but Selena—

I hung up the phone. There’s no point of arguing and defending my side to her, she doesn’t believe me. Oh Hayley. If you only knew what Selena have done and what I have just heard.

Hayley’s POV.

Last night isn’t that good. Emily and I had a small fight. She told me about Selena lying. I don’t know who’s the one I’m gonna believe in. I’m too confused to think. I promise. How can I fix this? I don’t want to lose Emily and I don’t want to waste the offered friendship from Selena.

The blasting sound of the speakers welcomed us at Selena’s party on a Friday evening. It’s too deafening, the music is like bouncing in your chest. My head is ringing and I can barely see which way I’m heading to. Everyone is shouting and howling like mad. They keep on jumping and shaking their bodies together with the rhythm of the music. I’m trying to keep my distance to the people, afraid that I might bump with them later on.

Josh and I made our way through the crowd and look for Selena. We spotted her along with her friends in the small bar on the corner. Her eyes grew wide as she saw us.

“Hay! Josh! You two came!” She exclaimed as she made her way to us.

“Yeah. So, did we miss something already?” I laughed.

“There’s nothing much. Umm.. Let me get you some drinks. Sit over there, feel at home.” She said in a cheery tone. She pointed a sofa beside the bar. I’ve never been to a party like this.

“Sure, thanks.” I whispered. Then, Josh and I hand in hand headed to the sofa and flopped down.

“Josh? Are you mad at me?” I asked. He didn’t talk to me that much since we’ve arrived at her ex’s house.

“Nah, why would I? Is there a reason for me to be mad at you?” He brushed my hair with his fingers and afterwards lifted my chin.

“Hmm.. because I forced you to come here with me?” I asked with my brows up. I don’t want to have any misunderstandings with him so it’s better to ask.

“No, Hayley, I come here with you because I want to. I want to be with you. Always.” He pursed a smile.

“You do? Really? Josh, you know what?” I turned my head on the right.

“Yes, I swear. Okay, so what is it?” He asked, leaning slowly to me.

“I love you soooooo much.” I grinned.

“I love you more. More than you’ll ever know.” He bent down and gave me a peck on the cheek. His brawny arms were wrapped around my skinny body.

I let out a soft giggle.

“Let’s go somewhere else later.” He requested. I could feel his warm breath on my face.

“Sure. Whatever you say, hun.” I laughed. “That was different, calling you ‘hun’.”

He looked deeply in my eyes and I was like melting in his stare. My heart hammered against my chest wildly. This is really different. I closed my eyes and waited for his tender lips to touch mine.

Selena’s POV.

Yes, she is here right now. Hmm.. What can I do to make her frown? Cry? Tonight. I’m getting their drinks when I saw Hayley and Josh kinda making out over the sofa. Oh she did not. He did not. I throw the glass I’m holding. Now they’re really making me mad. So mad. Both of them are getting into my nerves. I could feel the blood is rising up to my head. Boiling and extremely burning each part of my body.

“Dammit!” I said to myself.

“Selena, are you okay? What’s going on?” Kelly asked. Kelly, a girl who possessed these features: red hair, round face, tantalizing eyes, pointed nose, kissable lips, a beautiful body like—which I think, can seduce any guys. But she barely dressed herself with showy clothes. She’s always wearing those not-so fitting shirts and skinny jeans. I can use her to make Josh stupid. But I think it’s much better if it’s gonna be me.

“Look over there.” I pointed Josh and Hayley.

“Bullshark!” She mumbled.

“Any ideas? I wanna ruin their night. Whatever it is, I’ll do it.” I muttered in a strong tone.

“Hmm..How about.. We’ll collide accidentally with their drinks on your hand. Then..” She smiled, mean.

“I get it now. So, let’s go?” I demanded.

The plan is to make Hayley all wet with beverage. Of course, wet with sweet juice. Ants must follow her. Kelly together with the girls positioned near the sofa, while I, on the other hand would go straight ahead. We’ll bump into each other accidentally and try to soak Hayley. I wore a smile, a million-dollar smile as I walk to the floor. When I’m almost near to Hayley and Josh, the girls ran. “Accidentally bumping” me. I tried my very best to act like I would fall and the two glass of beverage would slip from my hands, making it fall to Hayley’s pants. And it happened. Perfect.

“Oh NO!! Ouch! Aw! Sh*t. It hurts! Aw, my legs!” I exclaimed after Kelly “accidentally” hit me. This is perfect, it seems like I’m a superstar, acting very well on the scenario. I fell on the floor and began to rub my legs as if it were aching.

“Selena, are you alright?” Hayley said worriedly. How can she be so kind to me? “Josh! Help me! Please.” She yelled. Sweet, Josh would carry me.

“Hayley, I’m really sorry. Your pants.” I cried.

“It’s completely fine.” She smiled.

Josh made his way beside Hayley and quickly carried me up. Now, this is the best part, isn’t it? Once he put me down on the sofa, he stood up afterwards. What’s up with him? Screw you. Josh.

“Oh Gee. Sel, we’re really sorry.” The girls apologized. I know, it’s fake. We made this  whole thing up. I just played along.

“That’s okay, guys. No biggie.” I smiled. Then Hayley sat down beside me and I placed my arms on her shoulders.

“Hayley, I have to tell you something.” I began.

“What is it?” She asked.

“Umm.. Can we talk somewhere in private?”

“Yah, sure. Where? But your legs. It still hurts, right?” She mumbled. Then, Josh sat down beside Hayley but he didn’t glance on my direction.

“I guess, I’m fine. Let’s go to my room. It’s over there.” I pointed the door of my room which has a hanging heart on the top. “Just help me get up.”

“Okay.” She replied. Then, she placed her hand on my waist and the other one on my arm.

“Josh, we’ll talk at her room. It’s only for a few minutes, I guess. I’ll be back.” Hayley turned to Josh. Her boyfriend, my ex-boyfriend, pursed his lips into a smile. I’ve never seen Josh smile like that.

“Sure.” He replied, locking his gaze to Hayley.

Hayley's POV.

"Hayley? Are you alright?" Emily shook me.

"Uh.. Yes. Why?" Shifting my gaze to her.

"You've been staring that floor for almost fifteen minutes." She pointed the floor and she's like giving me a direction.

"Yes, I'm perfectly fine. Don't you worry." I mumbled. It's lunch break already.

"What's up with you anyway? We haven't talked for ages." She said with a laugh.

"Nothing much. Hmmm.. Josh and I are finally together, flunking —close to flunking, Selena— we're friends now, that's all. How 'bout ya?"

"Wait. Friends? Selena? Since when?" She's wearing an astonished look on her face.

"Just yester—

"Hi Hayley, Hi Emily." Selena rushed up to my side and took her sit.

"Hello." I smiled.

"Umm.. Emily? May I borrow Hayley first?" Selena asked Emily who's staring us, stunned. But before Emily could open her mouth to speak, Selena grabbed my wrist and led me to the occupied hallway. I peeked at Emily, she looks sad. I should not left her that way, we're having a little chitchat. Then, Selena showed up. It's been a long time since Emily and I have an appropriate talk. What should I do?

"Hayley, I'm really sorry for interrupting you and Emily. This is really urgent." She began to sob. I led her to one corner and let her sit.

"Why are you crying Selena? What's wrong?" I asked worriedly.

"I don't know if I left my necklace somewhere or if someone stole it. My sister gave it to me last Christmas." She wailed. Christmas. It seems like I bumped into a wall, my head started to stir up. Mom, Dad.

"Hayley, I really don't know what to do. What if my Dad finds out that I lost it? My sister might get mad at me. I'm gonna be so dead." She threw her arms around me and began to cry on my shoulder.

"We'll think of something. Don't worry, I'll help you." I mumbled as I rub her back. Afterwards, she stopped crying and faced me.

"You will?" She asked. Her face is soaked with tears.

"Yeah. So, in the mean time. We need to save up so that we can replace the necklace of yours as soon as possible." I smiled. I guess, that's fine. At least, I could help her. Now where would I go for help? I don't have any parents at all. I don't want to bother Aunt, Josh and Mrs.Farro.

"Hayley? Are you okay?"

"Oh yes. I'm just.. uh.. Nothing." I whispered.

"It's alright if you're not be able to help me. That's fine, really. I think I can handle the sanction they might give me. I know, it's too much. They're probably over reacting by then." She cried.

"Selena, I promise that I will help you. Don't cry. It will be fine." I told her.

"Really? Oh jeez! Thank you so much Hayley! I really owe you a big one!" She flashed her smile.

"Anytime Sel. Oh how much is that necklace you've lost by the way?" I asked worriedly.

"Thirty dollars." She bit her lip. Now where in the world I can get thirty dollars?

"What? Thirty dollars!" I exclaimed. "Sorry, I'm just surprised." What am I going to do? I can't and I musn't back out now. I don't have that amount of money in my hands. Oh boy. Here we go again.

Emily's POV.

The bell rang and the students hurriedly packed their bags and got out of the classroom. Zac is waiting for me in the parking lot. On the other hand, Hayley seemed to be problematic this afternoon. I wonder what happened.

The classroom has been almost cleared, well I'm the last one to buzz off. I heard a bunch of girls laughing in the comfort room near the exit.

"Exactly! Hayley thinks that I really lost my necklace! I wonder what she's gonna do to help me have another necklace." A familiar voice said.

"Selena, what's your point? Why are you doing this to Hayley?" A girl asked. So, Selena.

"Whatever the reason is. It's probably none of your business, Dolly." Selena replied. Well, that was enough. I've heard enough, She's playing a trick to get Hayley. I have to tell this to Hayley as soon as possible before everything gets worst. I run and look for Zac's car over the parking lot.

"Zac? Where's Josh?" I asked as soon as I opened the car's door. I gave him a peck on the cheek.

"Why are you looking for Josh? I'm jealous, Emily." He teased.

"Oh don't be. Actually, I'm looking for Hayley but I bet she's with Josh. So that's it." I told him.

"Okay. I guess, we'll catch 'em later at the house. If not, we'll find a way to find them."

"Thanks Zac." I relaxed on my seat and began to think to about what I've heard a while ago. What would Hayley do? What would she feel? Oh poor Hayley.

Josh's POV.

"Hayley, tomorrow's the party. Are you really sure that we will go?" I asked her. We're on my house, chilling and doing our assignment for tomorrow. Selena's party will probably start at 7pm. I really don't have any idea, but my guess must be right.

"Josh. How many times do I have to tell you? It's a yes. We are going. If you don't want to, I will ask Emily to go with me. If she's not available. I'll go alone." She mumbled as she work on our assignment.

"I'm going with you. I'm sorry." I replied. I knwe I let her down again. She appears to be not in the mood tonight, to talk, to laugh or even to be herself. I guess so. "What's wrong?"

"No, there's none. Don't worry about me." She glanced at me then back to her paper.

"Okay." I mumbled. I started to work on other problems in the textbook and we remained silent.

I'm busy with calculating answers when my head began to ache. It's like my head will crack into two.

Hayley's POV.

How am I going to help Selena? Should I take a work after class? Like part-time job? Baby sit? I asked myself. I can't think properly, my mind is focused on something else. Afterwards, Josh's pencil drop on the table. I look up and saw him rubbing his forehead. He's trying to fight the pain.

"Joshie? You okay?" I stood up from my seat and reached for him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Could you get me a glass of water?" He requested. I ran up to the sink and filled a glass of water.

"Thanks." he muttered. "Hayley, I guess. I can't walk you home. We'll wait for Zac so someone can at least—

"It's fine Josh. I can go home alone. I can handle myself. I guess you better rest now." I helped him get up and led him to his room upstairs.

"Sleep well Joshie." I smiled. "I'm really sorry a while ago. And. I love you."

"That's okay Hayles. I understand. I love you so much. More than you'll ever know. Come closer." He said, his hand is signaling for me to come close. I leaned in, I thought he's gonna tell me something but instead he pressed his lips to mine and wrapped his arms on my body. He deepened the kiss and slowly I gave in. When we're going too much, we pulled away from each other and muttered our apology.

"See ya tomorrow Josh. Sweet dreams. Get well soon, okay?" I mumbled and left him on his room. Is he really sick? How can he manage to be like that. Hmm. I gathered our things and left their house.

The night is really sending a sad feeling to me. Everything is quiet. I sat down on the sidewalk and think about Mom and Dad. I really miss them.

Hayley's POV.

We got back to school and as for my observation, I'm not doing good. Most of my quizzes are failed and whenever my teachers ask me about our discussion, I just say 'I don't know, sorry'. Josh and I were finally together and I'm happy that it happened. I must do well on my school stuff but there is a particular reason why I can't even focus. That nightmare I had keeps bugging me like hell. I can't really get over it.

I'm over by the lockers, getting my stuff for the last three subjects I will go to this afternoon.

"Hello, Hayley." A sweet-toned voice greeted me.

"Hi." I smiled as I turn my head on my right. Okay, Selena is standing right beside me. I never thought her voice could be sweet. Gah. Bitter. My smile faded, replacing a puzzled look. She never approached me before until now. This is kinda different for me.

"How are you? Umm.. I'm just wondering if .. you can come to my party the day after tomorrow. You can bring anyone you want to. I wouldn't mind." She smiled.

I doubt. Nah. Selena? Asking me to go to her party?

"Wow." I laughed nervously. Now this is way awkward. She never invited me to her parties because, I don't know, probably because I'm not a grily-girl type? Oh yeah. Whatever is the reason, it doesn't seem to be important by now.

"So, are you coming? C'mon. Please." She pleaded, her hands were placed on my shoulders. "We'll be graduating soon. Hayley, look, I'm really sorry for what happened before. Will you ever forgive me? Promise, I'll be good."

"It's fine, really. I forgave you already and I understand that there must be some misundertanding that's why. Oh yeah, sure. I'm coming. You sure I can bring anyone I want to?" I responded. Then, she threw her arms on me and gave me a big hug. I hugged her back. She's a lot taller than I.

"Awesome." We pulled away from each other. "Anyone you want to bring along would be fine. Friends?" Selena offered her hand left hand to me. I didn't hesitate to shake it.

"Friends." I guaranteed. It's not bad to be friends with her, ayt? Aunt said that I should get over and move on from what happened in my past. I hope I won't regret doing this.

"Thank you." She whispered and hugged me again.

Josh's POV.

I'm looking for Hayley, where could she be? The afternoon class will start and the bell will ring any minute. I spotted her over the lockers and she's chatting with a tall girl I recognized. Selena. Hayley is smiling, even laugh. What's going on with them? I don't know what but I have to rescue Hayley from that girl.

"Hi Josh." Hayley's sweet voice welcomed me.

"Hello, Hayles." I leaned in and gave her a smack on her red lips. "How are you today?"

"Haha. Very funny. We're on the same class silly. Pretty good and bad." She laughed. "Oh and by the way, Selena invited me to her party and I said yes. We're coming, aren't we?"

"Whoa." I replied. So, what the heck is my ex-girlfriend planning? Why did she have to do this? What is it that she want from me and Hayley? There's no way I'm gonna let Hayley to be close with this girl.

"Oh. We're going, aren't we?" Hayley seemed to be a little girl, asking for a lollipop. Plus, she gave those puppy eyes.

"It's okay, Hayley. If you don't want to, it's fine with me, swear." Selena interrupted.

"Nah. I said yes to you, right? So we are going, but if Josh doesn't wan to, I'll bring Emily along." She answered.

"No. I'm coming with you." I said abruptly. Well, I don't want Hayley to go there alone. Zac and Emily have a date and I don't want to upset my brother by this.

"Okay, it's a deal then?" Selena let out a giggle.

"Sure, Yeah it is!" Thanks for inviting me by the way—oh us." Hayley mumbled.

"Anytime. So, I gotta go and leave you guys here. See ya around." Selena blinked. "Bye." Then, she made her way to her locker, joining her slut friends.

"Hayley, what's going on?" I asked worriedly.

"What do you mean 'What's going on?' ?" She replied, puzzled.

"What's with you and Selena? Something happened, right?"

"She offered a friendship."

"And you accept it?" I retorted. I don't want Hayley near to that girl.

"Yes, why wouldn't I? Josh." She replied, her brows were up.

"Nah. Just be careful okay?" I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight.

"Sure. I will. Just for you." She whispered.

Selena's POV.

"Selena, look over there." Kelly said. Her eyes grew wide.

"Why should I?" I asked my girls. Well, the first plan was a success. I'm so proud of myself. Hayley thinks that I am serious with that friendship thing. But the truth is, it's just a show. It really turned out smooth.

"Josh and Hayley." Cecilia marched in.

"Girls, don't be so obvious." I said, annoyed. "Pretend like you don't see them."

"How dramatic, Sel." Kelly commented.

"Oh shut up. Just go with the flow and do what I say. Don't mind them." I pouted my lips and raise my one brow.

"Aha. So, Okay. You really obsess with Josh? You have Todd already." Cecilia whispered.

"Nah. I don't care about Todd or whatever. I just.. I just don't want Josh to be happy with that Hayley girl."

"Right." They replied in unison. I just flash them my devilish smile and they smile in return.

Poor Hayley, you didn't know you're under my wicked plans. I'm so sorry, but I have to take revenge to Josh for dumping me, and for choosing you. I'm not really mad at you, I'm just sick of seeing you and Josh together. Both of you must suffer.

Hayley’s POV.

I am standing in the way, with no apparent reason. Snow is falling down hard and I can’t even feel it. It seems like I am invincible now. But how could it be? I couldn’t understand what I am doing here.  I waited. I look around, terrified that something may pop out of the dark. But no, there isn’t any. What is really going on? Afterwards, I could only see white. The blizzard is so close.  But how come I couldn’t feel the cold? I should be freezing by now. I should have died in this situation. What? Why? A few moments later, the headlights of one vehicle caught my sight. Well, it’s driving sluggishly and it appears to be having some serious problems because of the snowstorm. Just then, I saw Mom and Dad inside. I don’t know if I’m seeing this for real or it’s just my imagination. Next thing I knew, I was inside the car, with both of my parents.

“We should not have left in the first place. The storm is too strong.” Mom mumbled, she was about to cry.

“Mom—Dad—wait.” I said, but it seems like they can’t hear me. They can’t hear me. Mom didn’t glance at the back.

“Yes. But we can’t turn back now honey.”

“What should we do?”

“I don’t know. Hayley must be so worried—

“Oh heavens! Honey—” Mom exclaimed.

Dad hit the break but it’s too late. The car swirled hastily and it’s hard to get it back on the right path. Then, it came into a halt. Mom bumped her head on the car’s window, the pressure is too much. Blood started to ooze from her forehead as I stared her in horror. Mom must have been fainted. On the other hand, Dad is groaning in pain. There was blood on his forehead too. What should I do? How come I am not hurt? What is really happening?

“Mom! Dad! Oh!” I exclaimed as hot tears welled up in my eyes. “Mom! Wake up! Please!! Dad!! Please!!”

“Hayley!! Hayles!!?? Wake up!! Hayley? What’s happening?” Someone shook me.

“No. Mom! Dad! Please! NO!!” I yelped, kicking in the air.

“Hayley, please. Wake up.” Someone shook me hard this time.

“Waaaaa.” I cried. “Wha— Where’s.. Mom and Dad?” I asked Josh, who was so close to me. I rubbed my eyes and wiped my tears. “Jo.. Josh.”

“Hayley, are you alright? You must be dreaming.” He held me close and kissed my forehead. “Don’t you worry, I’m here now. It’s going to be fine.”

Josh’s POV.

Her Aunt let me stay last night because of the heavy rain and both Hayley and I were dripping wet. I accepted the offer because I’m too tired to drive home. My head was aching so bad last night. I heard Hayley yelling something the next morning, so I went inside her room. I saw her, still lying in bed and tears were streaming down on her white face. I came up to her side and shook her. She must be having a nightmare.

“Josh. It’s really bad. So bad. I just saw Mom and Dad died.” She cried as she buried her hands on her face.

“Hayley, Shhh.” I don’t know what to say in the first place. I don’t want to tell something that might hurt her feelings or something, so I remained silent and tried to calm her down.

“It’s really terrible and horrible Josh. It seems real.” She said between sobs.

“You’ll be fine now, honey.” I rubbed her back and kissed her forehead. “Let’s grab something to eat.”

“He—Hey, good morning kids.” Her aunt smiled. The smell of bacon, eggs, coffee, bread, hotdogs are filling the atmosphere of their kitchen. “Take your seats and start eating, okay? Oh wait. Hayley, did you cry? What happened?”

The three of us took our seats and started to eat.

“Just a terrible and horrible nightmare.” Hayley replied as she sipped her coffee.

“Oh, okay. What is it all about then?”

Hayley doesn’t seem to hear what her aunt just asked.

“Hayley, are you alright? I’m asking you. It’s all about what?” Her aunt asked. Nah, she’s not mad or something. She’s just worried, I think.

“Mom and Dad.” She mumbled. It appears to be that she doesn’t like mentioning it to anyone.

We stopped eating and became silent. “It’s fine, I swear. I’m okay. Really.” Hayley forced a smile and started eating her breakfast.

Selena’s POV.

It’s time for jogging and I prepared everything that I might need. I grabbed my iPod and got outside of the house. I started to walk and then jog ahead. Just when I’m near the playground, I saw this couple on the swing. Their backs are facing me so I couldn’t see a picture of their face. A orange-red haired girl and a brown-haired boy. Wait. Hayley and Josh? What are they doing here? I stop and waited. The girl stood up and grabbed the boy’s hand. Nah. It’s not Hayley and Josh. I’m just being paranoid. Paranoid? No. I guess I’m not. Ughhhhh. I shook my head and started to jog again.

Josh didn’t come back after he left us last night. Oh well. It’s good to have Todd with me. I can’t really say we’re dating again. I guess he’s only my past time if I can’t flirt with Josh.

“Yes? Hello? Kelly? Why did you call? Something wrong?” I asked.

“Yeah. Bad news, I guess Josh and Hayley are together now.” Kelly replied over the other line.

“What! Oh they did not.” I fumed.

“I’m not so sure about that. Someone saw them on the parking lot last night and they both looked in love. I dunno. They’re dancing in the middle of the rain. Blah. Blah. Blah.”

“ ‘Kay. Bye.” I hung up.

That orange-haired girl. Wait and see. Just you wait Hayley Williams. Just you wait.

"Kevin, where the hell are ya?" I hissed over the phone.

"I'm in the parking lot. Selena, I can't do this." He stuttered. I asked him for a favor a while ago, just before he picked up Hayley from her home. He must do something silly to scare that girl and not really show up here at the Ball. I hope Josh won't see her. Really. Hoping. For. That. I don't want to see her 'cause she might ruin my night. That face.

"What? Kevin! You said yes one hour ago and now you will back out? What the— If you don't do it. I.. I.." I can't think of a threat. This is stupid. I should have hired someone better than Kevin. Todd! Todd can do it! Oh yes! But he's not answering my phone calls.

"What? Selena, I can't do it. And please, will ya stay away from Hayley? She haven't done anything bad to you. Why are you so mad at her anyway?" He asked, his tone is beginning to rise.

"It's none of your business, I won't answer your question. Bye." I hung up and sighed.

"What happened?" Jenna asked.

"Nah. Never mind. I'm fine." I replied. I don't want to tell them her about my plan. It will make the situation more revealing. That Hayley is really pissing me off.

Josh's POV.

Sitting here when no one to talk to is boring, Dancing with someone over the dance floor doesn't make it more interesting. I should not have attended this Valentine's Ball. This is stupid. The fact that I'm with Selena and not with Hayley is definitely a nightmare. You see, going out with my ex again. My evil ex.

Is she trying to seduce me or something? She's beginning to act like whore. Smiling like an idiot. Her friends are around us. Her loyal followers. I need some fresh air, just wanna get out from here, even for a second. I stood up from my seat and started head outside. I can hear Selena, asking me where am I going but I just ignored it. Where could Hayley be by now? Is she here already? Where is Kevin? I wonder.

I reached the parking lot and walked aimlessly. How could I be so stupid? I should have asked Hayley earlier than Kevin. I screw it up. What if Hayley likes Kevin now? What will I do? I can't even think properly. I sat down on the bench near my parked car and started to yell. I am an idiot.

"Sh*t! NO!!" I began to cry with a reason i just can't understand. Why am I feeling like this? Why? Why me?

Hayley's POV.

Kevin led me to one of the benches in the parking lot. "Stay here for a while, okay? Please." He pleaded.

"Sure. No problem." I simply replied. What is going on?

"I'll grab something to eat. Don't go inside Hayley. Please." He said, holding my both hands.

"Why? What's happening?" I asked, negative thoughts was filling my head.

"Don't mind it. Just do what I've said. Please." He said.

"Okay."I mumbled. Then he left me alone there. It's cold and I'm freezing. Just look how my dress is. I should have brought my blazer with me, really. I might die here in cold. I wonder how's Josh now. He is with Selena. I wonder what is the reason why they broke up. It seems to be absurd. Josh haven't mentioned anything about it. How could he mention such? I barely have a chat with him.

Then, someone shouted which made me almost jumped from my sit. I looked around, looking for that someone who really yelled. I stood up from the bench and started to walk, scanning through. Afterwards, I spotted a guy, down on his knees and crying. His back was facing me so I couldn't recognized who he is.

As soon as I reached him, I sat down and offer him a handkerchief. "Are you alright?" I asked.

He removed his hands from his face and looked up. Josh! I don't know what to do. My eyes are locked up with his. My body stiffened. Why? Josh? Why you? Next thing I knew, his arms was wrapped around me. He began to cry like a child.

"Hayley, I'm really sorry. Hayley, please. Forgive me." He sobbed.

"Josh." I rubbed his back. "That's alright. Please, stop crying." I said. I feel like melting in his embrace. There's something about Josh that really makes my whole body thaw.

"Hayley, I love you so much. I love you more than anything you'll ever know." He said, facing me.

"Josh. I.. I.. I don't know what to say. I.. I love you too." I smiled, hiding the relief that finally, I've said it to him. Afterwards, he grinned and planted a kiss on my lips. I kissed him back.

"Hayley, why are you giggling?" He asked.

"I can't even help it. I'm so happy." I said. He helped me to get up. As soon as were standing, I grabbed his polo and planted my lips on his. The rain perfectly pour down before us. Though we're totally soaked, that's fine. At least, we get back together.

After we pulled away from the kiss, we smiled to each other. He placed his hand on my waist and the other was holiding my hand. He pulled me closer and started to sway me slowly. He began to sing Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World as we swayed. I'm perfectly happy about this. What a Valentine's treat for us!

Hayley's POV.

Kevin approached me and ask if it is alright that I would be his date. Of course, I did say yes. I have no choice but to accept his offer anyways. Josh would probably be going with someone. I was expecting that he would ask me but he didn't. I feel like a fool. Why do I keep on holding back? Am I?

"Hey." A familiar voice called, just behind me. Josh.

"Hey man. How is it going?" Kevin smiiled.

I remained steady from where I stood, afraid to make a move. I held my books closer to my chest. The moment is really awkward for me.

"What are you doing here?" Josh asked.

"Why? Am I forbidden to cross this place?"Kevin asked.

"Nah. Dude. Just kidding." Josh replied. I wonder if he really is kidding. By the tone of his asking, he seemed to be defensive.

I turn around with my eyes fixed on Josh's. I feel like crying with no apparent reason. I just want to stab sharp words on him. How can he be so stupid? I don't know what he wants and why he is acting so stupid.

"She's my date." Kevin said with a huge smile lining on his lips.

"Hayley?" Josh was surprised. I bet. What's up with him?

"Yeah. Why? Don't you believe Kevin?" I replied, brushing my hair up with one hand and smile at Kevin's direction.

"Oh. I.. I'm just a little surprised." Josh said, his tone was a sad one.

KRINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

"Ms. Williams, would you mind if I walk you to your first class?" Kevin asked, offering his hands to take my stuff.

"No, I don't mind. Mister." I laughed.

"Josh, you coming?" Kevin asked, looking back.

"Uh.. No. You go ahead." Josh replied. He turned his back on us and headed to his locker. I saw Selena followed him.

Josh's POV.

How can I be such a dork? Kevin just asked Hayley to be his date on Valentine's ball! I don't feel like going anymore. Screw up.

"Josh, have a date already?" I turned around and see Selena leaning on a locker, looking at her nails. Smile was forming on his lips.

"And? I'm not coming." I replied.

"Why is that? Oh Josh. Come. Please." She was like begging.

"And why would I do that?" Im getting more annoyed.

"Just have fun? I'll get you a date. Or if you want, I'll be your date." She said innocently.

"Ha. Fine. Whatever." I responded.

"Is that a yes?" She asked, thrilled.

"Maybe." I said, and hurriedly made my way to my first class.

Hayley was staring outside again. Her mind seemed to be filled with thoughts. I sighed. Now what the heck is going on? I should have asked her earlier so she wouldn't be going with Kevin tomorrow. I'm so in love with her. Maybe I can talk to her tomorrow and explained everything that happened. She seemed to be mad at me, just the way she replied with my questions a while ago. Just explain.

Selena's POV.

"Guess what?" I exclaimed to the girls.

"What?" Jenna asked, puzzled.

"I'm going with Josh!" I said, pouting my lips.

"Great job!" Cecilia cheered.

"Oh well." I spun around.

Poor Hayley. Are you dumping Joshie? How can you be so ignorant? Things are going on as I planned. I guess. This is much, much fun than I thought. But Josh didn't look thrilled that he is going with me. Whatever. I guess I have to invite Todd over. If ever Josh won't show up, I have someone with me. Double fun.

Hayley's POV.

I took a second glance on my full-length mirror, not bad. My hairstyle for tonight is a french twist. There were few hair strands on both sides of my face, my bangs were placed sideways. Nice. As for the make-up, just an thin eye-liner, blush-on and a peace lip-gloss. Very simple. I don't want too much. Accessories. Check. Just a silver heart pendant. I guess I'm ready.

"Hayley? Kevin is here already." Aunt yelled over.

"Sure. Wait up." I grabbed my purse and hurriedly made my way downstairs. Kevin is. Kevin look more handsome than ever. He is wearing a tux. His hair was like Josh's. Ugh. Josh again. Why there is always a certain thing that reminds me of him? What happened to us anyway? I sighed and wash away the thought.

"Wow. You look gorgeous." Kevin said.

"Thanks. You look gorgeous, yourself." I laughed.

"Thanks. Shall we?" He asked.

"Sure. Umm.. Aunt, we're leaving now." I said as I gave Aunt a peck on her right cheek.

"Take care, you two." She replied, hugging me.

"Sure we will. Bye." I waved. And get out of the house.

The cold wind of the night send shivers on my spine. I should have brought a blazer with me. I don't want to go back inside because of my heels. It's really giving a pain on my feet. Kevin opened the car's door and I slipped in. I muttered my thanks and he smiled.

"Is Josh coming?" I asked him. Well, I just blurted it all out.

"Yes. I heard he is going with his ex-girl." He replied as he put the key into ignition.

"Who is?" I asked, puzzled.

"Selena." He replied.

"What? They split up? When did that thing happpened?" I just can't help myself from asking.

"You didn't know that happened? Oh. Josh dumped Selena. " He laughed.

"Why are you laughing? Is there something funny about it?"

"No, there's none. Sorry." He said. He kept on glancing at my direction which made me feel awkward. Is my dress too low? Ugh.

"That's fine. You excited about the Ball?" I asked, just to keep the conversation going.

"Yes. And you?"

"Not really. I really don't want to go to the Ball. Anyways, I'm doing a favor for Emily." I smiled.

"You're so kind."

"Is that a compliment?" My brows were up.

"What do you think?"

"I dunno." I whispered. I shifted my gaze outside and remained silent for the whole trip.

We finally arrived. There were many cars parked at the lot and it was so dark then. Just post lamps were lit up. There were students who were making out at their cars. Aw. What a view. Kevin pulled up and got out of the car. He opened my door and helped me to get out. I muttered my thanks again. Then, he grabbed my wrist and led me. Where are we going?

Hayley’s POV.

“Hello, Hayles.” Selena smiled. “How are you?”

Wait. Why is she talking to me? What happened to her? Did she swallow something hard or what? After all of those evil glares, frowns and mean gestures to me, she’ll ask me how I am. Someone tapped my shoulder which made me snap out of my thought.

“I uh.. I’m fine. Thanks.” I forced a fake smile.

“Great.” She said, cheery. “Hello.” She turned to my aunt.

“Hi. Pleased to meet you. What’s your name?”

“Selena. And you are?” She offered her one hand and my aunt took it.

“I’m Hayley’s aunt.” Aunt replied.

“Really? I thought you were sisters, seriously.”

“Oh. So, you must be a close friend of Hayles. You seem to be uh.. cheerful?”

What? Selena? My close friend? You have got to be kidding me. No. Never. And I will never ever allow Selena to be my close friend.

“No, we barely talk in school. Oh I have to go, Mom’s calling me. Take care you two.” She said, as she hurriedly made her way to her Mom who is waiting for her in front of a shop, a few meters away from us. Jeez. I thought she’s going to lie from us, but she didn’t. I wonder where she get the initiative and effort to talk to me. Ugh.

“Do you have any plans?” Aunt asked.

“About what?”

“Making friends with that girl.”

“No. No. No. No..”

“Why is that Hayley girl?”

“Don’t wanna talk about it.” I simply replied.

“Spill.”

Next thing I knew, I explained what was really going on between Selena and I. She said that it was fine and I should have moved on a long time ago. Everyone deserves their second chance. But for Selena, should I give her a second chance? Will I?

Josh’s POV.

“Hey, man. ‘sup?” It’s Kevin’s voice on the other line.

“Nothing new. Ha. Why did you call? Another girl problem? Ugh. Don’t ask me.” I kid.

“Yah, you got it right dude. See, the ball is, not a basket ball okay? The valentine’s ball.. I want to ask this girl to come with me but I don’t know how. She is your classmate.”

Wait. Who is he talking about? In my class. Hmm.. Kevin is my best dude since I entered high school. And we were like brothers.

“Who is she?” I asked, puzzled. I couldn’t figure out who the girl is.

“It’s Hayley Williams.” He replied.

“NO WAY!” I shouted.

“Why?” He asked. I was a little shocked when he mentioned the name. I’m planning to ask Hayley to come with me, but she isn’t talking to me. I’m not gonna let someone take her to the ball, unless it is me.

“Hey Josh, why? Does she have a date already?” He asked, confused.

“I don’t know. Oh. Men, I have to go. Sorry. I’ll.. I’ll try to help.” Oh molly! Did I just say that I’ll help? Oh freak. Now what? So damn stupid.

“Seriously? Thanks man.”

“Right, Bye.” I muttered. How can I be so stupid?

Hayley’s POV.

As I walked through the bustling corridor of my school, students were busy doing their thing. Some were throwing crumpled papers everywhere, making out, howling like mad, making fun of some and many more. Pretty normal, nothing has changed really. I think there is, particularly between Josh and I. I haven’t talked to him for a long time since Mom and Dad died. He didn’t even bother to approach me then. So, I believe. There is no reason for me to believe that everything’s alright. I got sick of saying it to myself. A fool.

I opened my locker with a frown on my face. Then, someone appeared beside me. I could smell a men’s perfume. Not bad, not good either. I glanced up to my side to see who it is. Kevin.

“Hi.” He smiled.

“Hi too. ‘Sup?” I shifted my gaze back to my locker and get some of my stuff, one by one.

“Uh.. May I ask you something?” He asked, a little bit nervous.

“Yeah, sure.” I replied.

“May you go to the ball with me?”

Right. So, I completely forgot about that ball. It seems like it isn’t for real, that must be the reason why I can’t remember it. Kevin? Asking me? Boy. Since I don’t have any partner yet, or a date. It’s still the same right? Or not? He isn’t that bad anyways.  So, this is it. I turned my face to him, ready to answer his question.

Selena’s POV.

Whore. I thought. How could Hayley managed to flirt with guys? Is that the effect of losing parents? I am standing near on my locker with my girlfriends. A perfect view. She’s so damn stupid whore. Whore. Whore. Josh just broke up with me, because of what? I bet Hayley’s the reason too. Her aunt thought that I am so kind, but the truth is, I’m not. I admit it.

I feel sorry for Josh ‘cause everything will be such a waste for him. He dumped me and I bet Hayley will dump him too. Now that Hayley’s flirting with that guy over there. What. Kevin? Seriously? Josh’s friend? Now, this is riot. Love this.

“Hey, Jen. Have Hayley’s number?”

“Since when did you have interest in Hayley’s number?” Jen asked, confused.

“It’s for nothing.” I smiled.

“Right. Here.” She smiled back.

Josh’s POV.

I didn’t answer any calls from Kevin since after our talk about that stupid ball. I don’t want him to go with Hayley. I want Hayley to go with me. I hurriedly made my way to Hayley who is standing in front of the lockers and I saw Kevin standing beside her. With his smile so huge. And Hayley too. Now what’s going on? I hate for being late. There's something happened. Something that I don't wanna know.
